Why did we choose to homeschool our keiki?
The curiosity about homeschooling began while attending the Tutu and Me program with my 3 yr. old. We attended bi-weekly meetings to participate in educational activities. They even provided us with educational materials to use at home.
I then decided to create my own activities for my 3-year-old. She learned to count from 1 to 10 in Hawaiian and English. We used simple flashcards made out of construction paper, yarn, and markers. I was even able to teach her to pray in Hawaiian.
I began to realize more and more that I was indeed capable of teaching my own child. This is when my earnest homeschooling contemplation turned into action.
As the time drew closer for my youngest daughter to start kindergarten I decided to research homeschooling as an alternative to traditional schooling.
After countless books and various websites, we made the decision to not only homeschool our youngest daughter, but all three of our school-aged keiki. Thus began our homeschooling journey!
